5 things that home-movers should check about their new boiler

Moving house is exciting and there is lots to think about. Your new boiler is probably one of the least exciting parts of the move, but it is one of the most important.

A new house after moving in

1. Find out key information

Find out the model of your boiler and how old it is. Make sure you receive all the relevant documents, including the Gas Safe Register certificate and any warranty papers.

2. Get a boiler service

Before or after you move in, get a boiler service. Your engineer makes sure the boiler is in good shape and gives the system a thorough clean to prevent breakdowns due to wear and tear. With an unfamiliar system, a service is also a chance to ask questions and learn the controls.

3. Arrange a free survey

If you have an older system, have a survey carried out. An engineer assesses the system and recommends improvements, and can tell you roughly what a future replacement would cost so you are prepared.

4. Consider boiler cover

Whether your system is old or new, boiler cover is the way to make sure you are not stung by the cost of an unexpected breakdown. Plans that include an annual service make it sensible to plan ahead and save money.

5. Take your meter reading

When you move in, take a meter reading so you are not charged for the previous owner’s usage. Then set your controls and you are good to go.

If you are moving home and want advice about your new system, our customer services team can arrange a free survey.
