As winter closes in, it is easy to see your energy bills climb. Here is a short list of effective tips to help you reduce your energy use and save money this winter.
- Turning down the thermostat by just one degree can shave around 10% off your heating bill, roughly a £60 a year saving for a typical household
- Replace your old boiler with a new energy efficient one to heat your home more efficiently and cut your annual bills
- Use the heat from the oven after cooking by leaving the door open and letting the heat circulate the kitchen
- Make sure your water immersion tank is insulated, to keep water hot for longer
- Take a short shower instead of a bath to make your hot water go further
- Put radiator panels behind radiators on external walls to reflect heat back into the room
- Close heavy curtains in the evening to keep the heat in
- Keep radiators clear, as a sofa or armchair in front of one absorbs the heat
