What boiler should I get?
The type of boiler you need depends on how large your home is and how many bathrooms you use every day.
Combi boilers are the most popular type for UK homes, because they heat your water as you use it and provide a high pressure supply from the mains. Heat-only boilers heat the water in a hot water tank and suit homes that need large volumes of hot water available at once, such as larger homes with multiple bathrooms. The original post included a video explaining the differences.
Which boiler manufacturer should I choose?
Boilers vary in performance, lifespan and price depending on design quality. Two of the best manufacturers are Vaillant and Worcester Bosch. Choosing a boiler from a trusted manufacturer means a high quality unit that lasts around 10 years or more, with a longer warranty period. Both of these manufacturers offer 10-year warranties.
Will my choice of manufacturer affect efficiency?
The brand will not affect efficiency, because of government legislation. Boiler Plus legislation means every gas boiler installed in the UK must have an energy efficiency rating of A, equivalent to no less than ErP 92%. That means 92% of the energy goes directly to heating your home and less than 8% is wasted.
How do I know which model to go with?
The best way to choose a new boiler is to have a survey carried out by a heating engineer. You can do your own research, but an engineer can tell you for certain which models suit the way you use your home.
