Is it worth getting boiler cover? The answer depends on a few things. If your boiler suddenly broke, could you afford to pay for a new one, and would you want to pay for the whole thing in one go? If the answer is no to both, it is worth investing in boiler cover.

Boilers are like any machine. Looked after properly they last a long time (at least 10 years), but they eventually break beyond repair. Cover simply spreads out the inevitable cost of a new boiler and means you are prepared.

Why is it worth getting boiler cover?

  • Annual boiler service is often included (around £70), saving you the yearly expense and the worry of remembering to book it.
  • Unlimited callouts mean small issues are checked early, preventing breakdowns and keeping the system efficient.
  • Parts and labour are included, often the most expensive part of a repair.
  • Replacement boiler is taken care of when the time comes, so you are up and running quickly.
  • Peace of mind, with your provider arranging everything rather than you sourcing quotes.

When might boiler cover not be worth it?

If you have savings set aside for this kind of expense, you might find it easier to pay for repairs yourself. If your boiler is old and inefficient it might not be coverable, in which case a new energy-efficient boiler is worth looking into instead.

So, is it worth getting boiler cover?

It comes down to you. If you prefer to put savings aside, cover is not for you. If you want peace of mind that your boiler and related costs are taken care of in advance, it is the ideal option.
