At BASI we are committed to helping the UK improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Over the past 18 months we have very much been practicing what we preach as we installed Solar PV to reduce our electricity consumption and Solar Thermal to reduce the energy we use for hot water.
Our most recent project involved replacing our traditional Gas boiler with a new state of the art wood pellet boiler to heat our radiators.
After Stuart had designed and proposed the installation it allowed us to assess the benefits of having the biomass boiler installed. We were amazed at how much money we could save. Our existing fuel was natural gas which is quite cheap compared to other fossil fuels like oil or bulk LPG, but we would still save nearly £1,000 a year on our fuel bills!
To add to our amazement our annual payment from the RHI would be in the region of £7,000 (that was £140,000 over 20 years in RHI payments) and considering the whole installation would only cost us £30,000 to complete, it really was a case of how soon we could get it done.
Two weeks later we had a brand New Windhager wood pellet boiler installed and working. The boiler heats up the radiators quickly and is as easy to use as a traditional gas boiler. We have converted the boiler room into a show area where our customers can come and see the boiler working.
We now not only have cheaper fuel bills, but we get paid for using the boiler through the RHI. All this whilst protecting our environment and using a sustainable source of fuel.
