Is it worth getting boiler cover?
The answer to this question depends on a few things…
If your boiler were to suddenly break, could you afford to pay for a new one? And would you want to pay out for the whole thing in one go?
If the answer is no to both these questions, it’s worth investing in boiler cover. A boiler cover plan provides you with peace of mind that, should a breakdown occur, you won’t have to reach into your own pocket to deal with the cost of repairs or a replacement.
Boilers are like any other machine. Looked after properly, they will last for a long time (at least 10 years). But, they will eventually break beyond repair. Investing in boiler cover simply spreads out the inevitable cost of a new boiler and means you’re prepared for when yours eventually dies.
Why is it worth getting boiler cover?
Annual boiler service – many cover plan schemes include your annual boiler service (which is around £70). This saves you the annual expense and means you don’t have to worry about remembering to arrange yours.
Unlimited call outs – having small issues or glitches checked when you notice them helps prevent breakdowns and ensures your system is running as efficiently as possible.
Parts and labour – it’s often the case that new parts are the more expensive part of the repair. But not with boiler cover, because parts and labour are included.
Replacement boiler – when the time eventually comes, the cost of your new boiler will be taken care of. You’ll be up and running with a new one as soon as possible.
Peace of mind – when a breakdown occurs, you don’t need to spend time sourcing quotes and comparing deals as your cover provider is on hand to arrange everything.
When might boiler cover not be worth it?
If you have savings put aside to deal with this kind of household expenditure, then you might find it easier to manage and pay for repairs and breakdowns yourself.
If your boiler is old and inefficient, it might not be coverable. Instead, it’s worth looking into a new energy-efficient boiler, which will save you money on your household bills each month.
So, is it worth getting boiler cover?
The answer really comes down to you. If you prefer to put savings aside for boiler care, then boiler cover isn’t for you. But, if you want peace of mind that your boiler and any related costs are taken care of in advance, then it’s the ideal option.
